Vietnam’s military-run telecommunications company Viettel was named “Emerging Market Service Provider of the Year” at an Asia-Pacific information and communications technology awards, Sai Gon Tiep Thi (Saigon Marketing) newspaper reported.
Viettel was the only Vietnamese company to pick up an award at the 2009 Asia Pacific ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Awards in Singapore on June 4, sponsored by global consulting company Frost and Sullivan.
The selection criteria for the award were revenue growth, diversification of products and business activities and the capability to overcome challenges in the market.
The Asia Pacific ICT Awards has 33 awards in four categories. Other winners included Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks and Microsoft.
Hanoi-based Viettel Mobile is one of Vietnam’s biggest telecommunications providers.
